MCFR Fire Service
Miles City Fire & Rescue employees volunteer their own time to receive certified training in both firefighting and EMS. Last year, on average, a full-time Miles City Fire & Rescue employee obtained at least 75 hours of firefighter/EMS training. Because of the level of certification, Miles City Fire & Rescue employees are ready to provide all of the following fire services to the community:
- Fire suppression 24 hours/day for the city of Miles City & 175 contracts located outside the city limits (these contracted homes and businesses pay for this service)
- Vehicle fires in the city
- Fire stand-by for special events (on scene in the event of a fire, such as at the airport)
- Aircraft Rescue firefighting (trained to fight aircraft fires and to rescue victims)
- Fire inspection of buildings and homes
- Annual hose testing (relates to ISO ratings)
- Annual pump testing (relates to ISO ratings)
- Vehicle extrication county-wide
- Fire sprinkler plan review for new and existing construction
- Fire alarm plan review for new and existing construction
- Special rescues, including water, confined space (i.e., rail cars), rope rescue, ice rescue etc.
- Hazardous materials response at operations level
- Mutual/assisted aid provided to the Custer County Rural Volunteer Fire Department and other surrounding community fire departments
- Provide fire training to other fire and rescue departments
- Instruct fire safety programs for the community
- Maintain vehicles and equipment including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks
- Grant writing to obtain vehicles, equipment, etc.
- Public service calls (smoke detector malfunctions, carbon monoxide checks, sprinkler system malfunction, natural gas odors, etc.)
